About us

Moonshadow is a pearl of a place for your pets’ next Lowcountry getaway. Nestled on 10 acres of serene land, it is a rarity to find such a unique property for their stay in today’s fast-paced, city quarters. We create spaces where pets can engage in social activities by day and lounge in well-suited accommodations by night. Here they can be who they are instinctively, while receiving modern, first-rate care.

Our entire team is committed to ensuring the pets and families in our circle receive the highest level of service and personalization during their stay. Within our loving environment, the wellness and safety of pets is our primary concern. Team members are trained in pet CPR and First Aid and managers are proud recipients of advanced, specialized training.  We strive for the best in every capacity!  Please feel free to call us for additional information at (843) 559-0571.

Owner, Jeffrey Grimm

Born in Pittsburgh, PA and having relocated to North Augusta in the early nineties, Jeffrey Grimm solidified his fondness for animals when he courted Kristen and her English Labrador Retriever. He holds a a double major in Information Systems and Marketing from the University of South Carolina. His diverse exposure to project, financial, and business management has prepared him to oversee coordination and implementation efforts associated with Mooshadow’s long-term focuses. He works alongside his wife, Kristen, and a stellar team to effectuate those important marks. Together, they have two, young daughters, and a dog, Mazie.

Owner, Kristen Grimm

Raised in the upstate, Kristen Grimm had a natural bent toward horseback riding, animal rescuing, adoption and support. A call for a more meaningful way of life for her family and an increased involvement in the industry’s greater good brought her to Moonshadow. Earning her Bachelor of Science in Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management from the University of South Carolina in 2001, Kristen went on to become the Executive Coordinator of a national, non-profit organization, whereby she led a core team to propagate the organization’s interests across the country. Additionally, she has broad experience in conference and event planning. Her background, blended with her deep love for animals, enables her to guide Moonshadow’s purpose alongside her husband, Jeffrey, and top-notch team. Together they have two young daughters and lots of family pets.

General Manager, Amber Smyly

An upbringing surrounded by Charleston’s nature-oriented scenery afforded Amber’s vast exposure to various types of animals whether they belonged to her or were deemed homeless that she cared for until their long term fit was found. Needless to say, she bonded with animals early on in age and was destined to make them the center of her life’s work. After she spent nearly 10 years gaining hands-on practice through local organizational clusters, including Frances R. Willis SPCA for a year and a half, as an Adoption Counselor, and then Charleston Animal Society for five years as an Assistant Manager of Adoptions, Amber thought having administration skills would bode well for advancing a career in her chosen field. Therefore, she decided to seize another opportunity by enhancing her vita through Business Management studies at Trident Technical College. During her timeline, she also became Safer Certified for two years under the ASPCA Behavior Team and was trained in administering medication and First Aid and CPR certified. As a dedicated animal advocate, she takes advantage of expanded learning privileges by attending conferences, events and workshops. In 2014, Amber’s pathway lead her to Moonshadow where she now has the distinct honor of leading as the General Manager. Bolstering the Moonshadow team, passing on knowledge, and demonstrating what quality should look like is extremely rewarding for her. She is highly motivated to entrench herself in every aspect of animal care. Her passion has always been to greatly benefit their welfare while providing outstanding customer service for families within a safe and loving environment! Amber says that for her Moonshadow is the ideal place to make it all happen.
